Hey, I’m Niloy. I build infrastructure that stays up.

Cloud, on-prem, or a bit of both. I design it, build it and keep it running for businesses that really can’t afford downtime. Oracle Cloud, AWS, GCP, VMware, Proxmox, Kubernetes, the lot. I use AI to move faster, but every change still gets checked by me.

A bit about me

I’m Niloy, an infra and cloud engineer based in Glasgow. I started out in enterprise support as the escalation guy for VMware and HPE platforms, the person you get once the first two lines have run out of ideas. That’s where I learned how big systems actually break. Since 2023 I’ve been doing my own thing through TwentyOneLabs, designing and running cloud and on-prem platforms for businesses. Oracle Cloud, AWS, GCP, VMware, Proxmox, Kubernetes, whatever fits the job.

  • Glasgow based, working remote with teams anywhere
  • Cloud and on-prem, no favourites
  • I write the docs. Yes, really.
  • Open source first, no lock-in

Where I’ve been

Short version: years of fixing other people’s biggest outages, then I started building my own stuff. Tap a role for the details.

    • Built private cloud setups for clients: high availability web hosting, private email servers and cloud storage.
    • Run workloads on Oracle Cloud, plus AWS and Google Cloud when a project needs them.
    • Set up Docker and Kubernetes environments with load balancing, TLS and proper firewalling.
    • Wrote and maintain backup and disaster recovery plans for Linux and Windows estates.
    • Patching, security updates and firmware, all done under change control.
    • Helped small businesses go digital with cheap, open-source tools, including their own online shops.
    • Oracle Cloud
    • AWS
    • Google Cloud
    • Docker
    • Kubernetes
    • NGINX
    • Linux
    • Windows Server
what i do

Stuff I can take off your plate

From picking the right cloud to the 2am patch window. I build it, write it down, and hand it over properly.

Cloud builds & migrations

Moving to Oracle Cloud, AWS or GCP, or tidying up what you’ve already got there. Sized properly so the bill doesn’t surprise you.

  • Networking, IAM and landing zones set up right
  • Lift and shift, or rebuild, whichever makes sense
  • Hybrid setups that link cloud and on-prem
  • Cost checks so you’re not paying for idle kit

Virtualisation & private cloud

VMware, Proxmox, Hyper-V or KVM clusters that keep going when a host dies. Including getting off VMware if the licence bill has gone silly.

  • HA clusters with shared storage and live migration
  • VMware health checks and exit plans
  • Capacity, storage and network design
  • HPE and Dell hardware, firmware included

Containers & Kubernetes

Docker and Kubernetes with CI/CD and monitoring. Right-sized, so no 40 node cluster for a blog.

  • Docker Compose up to full Kubernetes (EKS too)
  • GitLab CI and Jenkins pipelines
  • Monitoring and alerts that are actually useful
  • Reverse proxy, TLS and load balancing

Networking & security

Segmented networks, locked down access and an edge that only lets the right people in.

  • VLANs and firewall design
  • VPN and secure remote access
  • NGINX reverse proxy with automatic TLS
  • Cloudflare DNS and certificates

Backup & disaster recovery

DR plans that get tested, not just written. Clear recovery targets, off-site copies and restore drills.

  • 3-2-1 backups, on-prem and in the cloud
  • Runbooks anyone on your team can follow
  • Scheduled restore tests
  • Off-site copies to object storage

Integration & automation

Hooking software up to real-world equipment, and scripting away the boring, repetitive jobs.

  • Connecting apps to on-site equipment
  • Ansible, Bash and PowerShell automation
  • APIs and data flows
  • Patching and firmware routines
how i work

AI does the typing. I do the thinking.

I use AI every day. It drafts the code, the docs and the first go at a fix. Then I review it, try it in a lab, and only ship what I’d happily put my name on.

  • A human checks every change
  • Tested in a lab first
  • Always a way to roll back

process

How a project actually goes

Same four steps every time. Boring? A bit. But boring is exactly what you want from infrastructure.

  1. 01

    Discover

I look at what you’ve got, what’s hurting and what you actually need. No money spent yet.

  2. 02

    Design

A written plan with costs, trade-offs and a way back if things go sideways. I try it in a lab first, so the surprises happen there.

  3. 03

    Build & migrate

Infrastructure as code, staged cutovers and tested backups. Changes go through review and a proper maintenance window.

  4. 04

    Run & improve

Monitoring, patching and firmware under change control. I either hand it all over with docs, or stick around on a retainer.
